Skip has been away and has not been able to stay up to date on all the latest news in sports. Luckily Josh has been keeping a list of all the things that have been bugging him, including conservative NFL coaches, taking a knee, the overuse of replays, pitchers not being able to catch pop ups, the Washington Nationals, the Atlanta Braves and Marlins man. Recorded April 9, 2018. Its spring, which means only one thing in Canada: The Stanley Cup Playoffs. The guys make their predictions for round one. Can the Leafs beat the Bruins? Who will win the battle of Pennsylvania? Can Nashville make it back to the finals? And what about the Vegas Golden Knights? Josh has some problem with the NHL playoff schedule and there’s also some final thoughts on the Habs disastrous season.

This was supposed to be a baseball playoff preview but what it became was actually a kind of look into the minds of two huge fans and what strange and often random factors make them root for one team over another. The grammar police are back and MLB has decreed that the playoffs be called POSTSEASON 2017. Skip declares his love for playoff baseball while Josh makes a pretty good case in favor of the wildcard format. The guys figured out that there are a few good reasons to cheer for a team: nice uniforms, if you like the fiancé of one of the players and usually if the team is an underdog. There are also reasons not to cheer for a team like ugly uniforms, bad time zones, if a players is a jerk or if you dislike a manager for something he might have done thirty five years ago. They guys ask some big questions: Can a wildcard team go all the way? Will the Nationals bullpen hold up? Are the Red Sox for real? Can the Cubs repeat? Can the Dodgers finally make some noise in the playoffs and can anyone stop the Indians? There’s also a cool promo for some indy podcast friends.
Skip and Josh discuss the Toronto sports scene with the Leafs, Raptors and Jays all sharing the spotlight, then the guys preview the playoffs in the NHL and the NBA. In the NHL the guys go over all the first round match ups, the lousy playoff format, the lack of rivalries, and the first ever good between period interview (thank you Justin Williams!). In the NBA the guys go over the MVP race, the origin of the triple double and the playoff match ups.
Recorded Jan 15, 2017 at 11:45 PM immediately after the NFL divisional playoff games ended. Skip and Josh recap the week end of NFL playoff games: icing the kicker, never ending penalties, Skip’s man-crush on Aaron Rodgers, how a safety means you automatically win the game and predictions for the next round. The guys also discuss the Pro-Bowl and the useless extra week before the Super Bowl and wonder if Canadian viewers will ever see the real commercials during the big game. Josh also lets us know how he feels about the Hab’s Andrew Shaw while Skip is not so impressed with the food at the NCAA Football-Texas hold’em party that Josh recently attended.
