Recorded August 13, 2018. In what only can be described as a perfect storm of sports podcasting the Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team landed in Toronto this week and not only was Josh at Coach K’s press conference he asked the first question! He then followed that up by catching up with NCAA basketball guru Jay Bilas. The guys also catch up on all the big sports news since their last recording session: Sox-Yanks, MLB Trade deadline, Johnny Manziel and Vlad’s Hall of Fame speech. There’s some big controversy in Josh’s fantasy baseball pool and some listener feedback on a few sports songs that didn’t make the cut.
Recorded March 26, 2018. Baseball is back! Skip and Josh preview the upcoming MLB season. Who will come out on top in the AL East, the Red Sox or Yankees? Do the Jays have a chance? Can the Astros repeat as World Series champs?
In the NL the Nationals and Dodgers both seem to be loaded, but who else can emerge, the Cubs? Cards? Brewers? D-Backs? Giants?
What players have the best chance at winning the league MVPs, Cy Young and Rookie of the year awards?
Recorded December 16, 2017. On the night of the big outdoor game between the Habs and Sens Skip and Josh discuss the state of the Ottawa franchise. Skip is devastated over the Carson Wentz injury. Did Duke really lose to Boston College? The guys follow up on the Stanton trade to the Yankees. Who would order shoes for a thousand dollars? Also find out why Skip’s wife is not happy about what was said about her a few episodes ago.
Recorded Oct 23, 2017. Skip and Josh are up early to discuss the MLB playoffs, the week in the NFL as well as the Habs and Leafs; two teams going in opposite directions.
In Baseball the Astros and Yankees treated us to a great series. Why was the home field so important? Who will the guys cheer for in the World Series? Josh has some unsent texts that he would like to share. Skip can’t pronounce Keuchel. There is some Astros nostalgia and of course the topic of Kate Upton does come up.
In the NFL, Josh is wondering how there can be three shutouts in one week. Skip is not sure if Cam Newton is any good. The SuperBowl rematch wasn’t really great and Skip tries to get into the minds of Giant and Jets fans.
Meanwhile in Montreal, the guys look at best and worst case scenarios for the Habs, whose fans are in full panic mode. In Toronto the Leafs may have lost to the Senators but their fans are still really positive about the team’s chances this season.
Recorded Oct 13, 2017. The MLB division series are over and Josh is fired up. Do any mangers actually know how to handle a pitching staff? Why do these games start so late and take so long? Skip is questioning himself about the importance of the pitching match ups and also wondering if any players today know the fundamentals of baseball. Josh tries to console Nats fans and declares that the Washington-Montreal franchise is cursed. The guys also get a bit philosophical.
Recorded Oct 1, 2017. This was supposed to be a baseball playoff preview but what it became was actually a kind of look into the minds of two huge fans and what strange and often random factors make them root for one team over another. The grammar police are back and MLB has decreed that the playoffs be called POSTSEASON 2017. Skip declares his love for playoff baseball while Josh makes a pretty good case in favor of the wildcard format. The guys figured out that there are a few good reasons to cheer for a team: nice uniforms, if you like the fiancé of one of the players and usually if the team is an underdog. There are also reasons not to cheer for a team like ugly uniforms, bad time zones, if a players is a jerk or if you dislike a manager for something he might have done thirty five years ago. They guys ask some big questions: Can a wildcard team go all the way? Will the Nationals bullpen hold up? Are the Red Sox for real? Can the Cubs repeat? Can the Dodgers finally make some noise in the playoffs and can anyone stop the Indians? There’s also a cool promo for some indy podcast friends.
Recorded Aug 2, 2017. Skip and Josh recap the MLB trade deadline. How will Yu Darvish fit in on the already stacked Dodgers? Can Sonny Gray keep the Yankees playoff hopes alive? Is the Sox-Yankees rivalry back? Have the Nationals addressed their bullpen woes? Did the Astros do enough? Do the Rockies or Diamondbacks have what it takes to make some noise in the N.L.? Josh weighs in on the Jays: Do the fans still have hope? Should they have unloaded more veterans? Skip is worried that Kate Upton is avoiding him.
Recorded July 13, 2017. In this episode the guys review the season so far in Major League Baseball. Does the All Star Game mean anything? Did the Home Run Derby live up to the hype? How good can Aaron Judge become? Can the Red Sox and Indians hold on to their division leads? Can anyone stop the Astros and Dodgers? Will the Nationals ever address their closer situation? What happened to the Cubs? Are the Jays buyers or sellers? How accurate were the guy’s pre-season picks? And of course the most important question: can a donkey be a pet?
